After my little Ann Alé, the Peugeot 205 of the seas, the next boat is definitely something different, it’s the hummer 4×4 of the seas, the Clipper 70.
The Clipper 70s are part of a one-design fleet own by the Clipper Round the World Race. They are strong 70ft fiberglass ocean-going boats. They are built to bring an amateur crew to some of the most extreme ocean on the planet. If they aren’t incredibly fast, they are tough and extremely powerful if handled properly… or go wild if failure to do so.
The Clipper 70’s are powerful beasts, find out more specs here.
They for sure can go fast and are not afraid to face extreme weather conditions.
My next project is to race the Mini Transat, a race across the Atlantic single-handed on a one-design fleet.
The Mini 6.50 class is an incubator for innovation. Most of the technology and design concepts you find today in the IMOCA class have first been tested (and crash-tested) on a mini.
I chose to go for a scow, more powerful and stable downwind, the Maxi 650, from IDB marine, see more specs here.
Can’t wait to get on the water with this new toy to see what it can give. Until then, have a look at the surfs these tiny offshore beasts are capable of.
